Electronic Soundscapes - About Sayer's Music
For most of my life, electronic music has been an integral part of my journey. The past several years have seen a new direction in my musical wanderings which involves the creation of electronic soundscapes that blend classic styles with more modern influences. I hope you will enjoy the results!.

Bonus Excerpts:

These are best thought of as musical sketches or ideas, rather than completed works. You may find previews of tracks in progress along with excerpts from ones that I felt would not work and no longer plan to further develop.

1st A6  - February 20, 2005

5.0mb

Trying out how the new Alesis Andromeda analog synthesizer sits in a mix with the other synths. For some reason this simple demo has received a positive response from several people.
Autonomous Arps  - November 6, 2004

7.5mb

A friend asked about using an arpeggiator to create more complex sequences rather than the usual up/down patterns arps are known for. So, I fired up the Virus b synthesizer and created this little demo. There is no lead lines, just some looping arps and drum patterns.

Something fun:
Using my new Sony Handycam I recorded some video from around my house (studio, aquariums, waterfall, etc.) and used Autonomous Arps as the soundtrack. It's not very good but was fun to create:

Autonomous Arps Video  (11mb - RealVideo format)

Underwater Caves  - July 11, 2004

3.9mb

Started to work on this as a track, but grew tired of it. Some fun sounds are used though, and I like the lead line.
Amaranthine  - June 15, 2004

1.8mb

A preview of a track created for the Michael Garrison tribute project.
Aquaria  - December 14, 2003

2.1mb

This is one of my favorite sequence/lead combinations I have ever created. Unfortunately, I have never managed to turn it into a finished track.
MarcE Test  - November 30, 2003

1.9mb

A wonderful person and excellent sound designer from the EX5 community has fallen ill and each year the group members do a tribute CD for him using sounds he created. This was the start of a track that unfortunately was never completed for the tribute.
Evolver_seq  - October 16, 2003

654k

A short sequence using the Evolver's onboard sequencer. Each of the 4 Evolver voices are sequenced separately, along with the noise source. This allows a 5-part real-time mix created on a monosynth!  :)
Moonstruck  - April 27, 2003

3.1mb

A fun melodic excerpt played live using the Nord Rack 2 and Waldorf XTk. Several people have said it reminds them of vintage Commodore 64 game music.
Material Witness  - April 1, 2003

2.3mb

Excerpt from a fun little sequence. I liked the sounds used and the smooth groove the sequences created.
The Promise  - July 21, 2002

3.2mb

An excerpt of a track I decided not finish. I really liked it at first, but after a few days the magic was not there for me anymore.
Smallstone  - June 20, 2002

885k

Example of running a string sound through a Smallstone phaser. Results in a nice warm Jarre-esque sound.
Virtualizer  - May 30, 2002

2.9mb

A quick audio capture of some trance inspired noodling I was doing in the studio. The lead sound was what I liked about this one.
MKS-7  - March 16, 2002

1.7mb

While testing the new studio configuration I used the ancient Roland MKS-7 module and came up with this short sequence. The MKS-7 is quite limited, but it can sound interesting when tweaked a bit. The drums in this clip are provided by the Korg ER-1.
Glacier Park  - January 27, 2002

3.6mb

Playing around in the studio and came up with this frantic little sequence and Mellotron strings.
Werkstation  - November 11, 2001

5.6mb

Playing around in the studio one afternoon resulted in this Kraftwerk inspired mix.
Terra Firma  - October 22, 2001

2.3mb

A very rough mix but kinda fun.
Melotheous  - July 14, 2001

3.6mb

A rough mix that has very little time invested. I was working at trying to get the best sound out of my new digital mixing environment when I came up with it
Reflections  - February 21, 2001

679k

A beautiful sequence using my new VA synths. This is one that I regret losing the setup for, I think it could have been a great track.
Dawn of Time  - February 2, 2000

5.9mb

Excerpt from an early track for the 1st Encounter CD that did not make the cut.
Aurora  - April 23, 2000

520k

A very early Dream Quest track that I abandoned. I no longer have several of the synths used to create it.
